Affective Learning: Empathetic Embodied Conversational Agents to Modulate Brain Oscillations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Integrating emotional feedback to educational systems has become one of the main concerns of the affective learning research community. This paper provides evidence that Embodied Conversational Agents (ECAs) could be effectively used as emotional feedback to improve brainwave activity towards learning. Further research, integrating ECAs into tutoring systems is essential to confirm these results. Keywords— Affective learning, brain oscillations, Embodied Conversational Agents, emotional feedback.

Modeling and evaluating empathy in embodied companion agents
Affective reasoning plays an increasingly important role in cognitive accounts of social interaction. Humans continuously assess one another's situational context, modify their own affective state accordingly, and then respond to these outcomes by expressing empathetic behaviors. Synthetic agents serving as companions should respond similarly. However, empathetic reasoning is riddled with the c...
متن کاملEffective Tutoring with Affective Embodied Conversational Agents
This PhD project aims to investigate the impact of affective embodied conversational agents (ECAs) on the learning of pupils. Based on the idea that there is a link between emotions and learning, we are developing an affective tutoring system in two domains: Information Technology and Business Studies. We will evaluate the system in a classroom setting over several weeks, with each student bein...
متن کاملHumor and Embodied Conversational Agents
This report surveys the role of humor in human-to-human interaction and the possible role of humor in human-computer interaction. The aim is to see whether it is useful for embodied conversational agents to integrate humor capabilities in their internal model of intelligence, emotions and interaction (verbal and nonverbal) capabilities. A current state of the art of research in embodied convers...
متن کاملEmbodied Agents: A New Impetus to Humor Research
In this paper we survey the role of humor in human-to-human interaction with the aim to see whether it is useful for embodied conversational agents to integrate humor capabilities in their internal model of intelligence, emotions and interaction (verbal and nonverbal) capabilities. For that reason we shortly survey the current state of the art of research in embodied conversational agents, affe...
متن کاملMaxine: Embodied Conversational Agents for Multimodal Emotional Communication
Emotions are fundamental to human experience, influencing cognition, perception and everyday tasks such as learning, communication and even rational decision-making. Humancomputer interaction (HCI) systems capable of sensing user affective state and giving adequate affective feedback are, therefore, likely to be perceived as more natural, persuasive and trustworthy (Cassell & Bickmore, 2000). A...
